The 1989 FA Charity Shield was the 67th Charity Shield a football match contested by the winners of the previous season’s Football League and FA Cup competitions. The match was played on 12 August 1989 between 1988–89 Football League champions Arsenal and 1989–89 FA Cup winners Liverpool.The two teams had met in the last game of the previous season in a title decider at Anfield which Arsenal won 2–0 with a late goal from Michael Thomas.
