Hellas Verona F.C. was the major disappointment in the 1985-86 season completely failing to defend its inaugural Serie A title it had won in the previous season. Its hopes of a decent European result ended in the Round of 16 when it came up against Juventus. The 10th position in Serie A was a major disappointment especially since the key players in the title winning squad had stayed on.
