The 1979 FA Charity Shield was a football match between Liverpool and Arsenal at Wembley on 11 August 1979.Liverpool managed by Bob Paisley had won the 1978–79 Football League and Arsenal managed by Terry Neill had won the 1979 FA Cup Final to qualify for the season opener which was played the week before the new league season kicked off.Liverpool opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a low drive from Terry McDermott from 25-yards past Pat Jennings.
