The 1934 Masters Tournament was the first Masters Tournament held March 22–25 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta Georgia. It was officially known as the Augusta National Invitation Tournament for its first five editions but informally as the Masters from the start. Horton Smith won the event with a 20-foot (6 m) birdie putt at the 17th hole (now the 8th hole) and finished at 284 (−4) one stroke ahead of runner-up Craig Wood.
