The 1916 VMI Keydets football team represented the Virginia Military Institute in their twenty-sixth season of organized football. Lead by 3rd year head coach Frank Gorton the Keydets went 4–5. After a 3–0 start with 3 shutout victories VMI would lose 5 out of their final 6 games with only 1 win.
