The 1909 U.S. Open was the 15th U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 24–25 1909 at Englewood Golf Club in Englewood New Jersey. George Sargent established a new tournament scoring record to prevail by four strokes over Tom McNamara and win his first U.S. Open title.David Hunter made U.S. Open history in the first round by becoming the first player to break 70 but he followed that up with an 84 in the second round and finished in 30th place.
