The 1899 U.S. Open was the fifth U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held September 14–15 1899 at Baltimore Country Club in Baltimore Maryland. Willie Smith recorded a record 11 stroke victory for his first U.S. Open title.Willie Smith dominated the championship shooting rounds of 77-82-79-77 the only player to record three sub-80 rounds. He did not score worse than a 7 on any hole in the championship. Val Fitzjohn George Low and W. H. Way finished tied for second 11 strokes behind.
