The asteroid (178008) Picard was discovered by Bernard Christophe in Saint-Sulpice on 30 August 2006. It received the provisory denomination 2006 QQ137.It was named after Claude Picard (1942–2008) French engineer at Arts et Métiers and astronomer. Picard is best known for his place in the commission for cosmology at the Société astronomique de France.
