17031 Piethut (1999 FL9) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on March 2 1999 by Lowell Observatory Near-Earth Object Search at the Anderson Mesa Station. The asteroid is named for astrophysicist Piet Hut a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
