1582 Martir (1950 LY) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on June 15 1950 by Miguel Itzigsohn at La Plata. at the La Plata Astronomical Observatory in La Plata Argentina. The object was named for Argentine first lady Eva Perón and its name translates from Spanish to martyr a term sometimes given her alongside in relation to her work towards social justice.
