1449 Virtanen (provisional designation: 1938 DO) is a main belt asteroid with an orbital period of 1210.0044377 days (3.31 years). It was discovered on February 20 1938 by Yrjö Väisälä at Iso-Heikkilä Observatory in Turku Finland. It is named after the Finnish chemist Artturi Ilmari Virtanen.
