12975 Efremov (1973 SY5) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on September 28 1973 by N. S. Chernykh at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. It was named after the Russian astronomer Yuri Efremov – and not after the palaeontologist and writer Ivan Yefremov whose name was previously given to the asteroid 2269 Efremiana.
