NBMI is a chelator developed at the University of Kentucky to remove heavy metals from contaminated soil and water. Due to its lipid solubility it appears to be of limit use. Sold as an nutritional supplement and antioxidant from 2006-2010 in the US FDA stopped its marketing until it has undergone full drug approval process. The manufacturer filed for its use as a chelator in clinical trials of mercury poisoning.
