Apoptosis (/ˌæpəˈtoʊsɪs/; from Ancient Greek ἀπό apo away from and πτῶσις ptōsis falling) is the process of programmed cell death (PCD) that may occur in multicellular organisms. Biochemical events lead to characteristic cell changes (morphology) and death.
