Akans are an ethnic group residing in the southern regions of what are today the republics of Ghana and the Ivory Coast in West Africa Akans are the largest ethnic group in both countries and have a population of roughly 20 million people. The Akan language (also known as Twi–Fante) is a group of dialects within the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo language family.
